FIRMS is an online data repository of the Department and all data managers are required to feed and update the data on real time basis. The meeting was conducted aimed to strengthen the data management practices carried out by the Department and also to build capacities of field data managers.

All data managers from 24 field offices attended the virtual meeting. The data managers presented on timber allotment (rural and commercial), Non-Wood Forest Product (NWFP), NWFP group, Community Forestry, Local Forest Management Areas, Forest Management Unit, Forest Offense, Private Forestry, Plantations, Nursery, Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, Wood-based Industries, Forest Fire, Human Wildlife Conflicts and Electric Fencing.

FIRMS was operationalized in 2017 with the aim of consolidating forestry information and sharing one information to users through a single source. FIRMS data is sought by individuals within the Department/Outside Department, for international/national reporting, students/researchers/academicians, policy makers, etc. The FIRMS data is also analyzed for publishing the Annual Forestry Statistics. FIRMS is managed by data managers at the Divisional Forest Offices/Parks/Range Offices/FMUs/Beat Offices/Check Post/Integrated Check Post. Information on forestry activities are entered by them on the real time basis. Currently, the FIRMS is housed under Forest Resources Management Division
