Any trekkers planning a trek along Zhapang – Rigsumgoenpa – Dungzam trail, things are up for a pleasant surprise. Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS) has constructed Camping site at Nakpola in Bumdeling and amenities like Canopies, Water taps and Waste bins along Zhapang- Rigsumgoenpa- Dungzam trail.The management and operation of the campsite with other amenities were handed over to the “Bumdeling Youth Initiative Ecotourism Group” (BYIEG) on 16th August, 2022. The youth group will operate and sustainably manage the amenities. The group will provide services like Bird watching, Camp site, Hot stone bath, Guided hikes, treks and pilgrimage, Porter pony services, Home stays and Traditional games.
Such initiative is aimed to not only help in creation of jobs to unemployed youths but boost the income generation of local communities. ![]()
In addition, BWS in consultation with BYIEG and gewog administration has also developed Business plan and Bylaws for the planning, implementation and monitoring of BYIEG programs. They are mandated to manage the ecotourism products and harness the benefits and contribute to the conservation through plough back mechanism.
The initiatives was carried out through Bhutan for Life (BFL) funding.
