Supposedly the first forest fire incidence of the 2022-2023 winter season, a forest fire has occured at Chabi, Tsenkhar gewog in Lhuentse. It is reported that the fire started sometime at noon on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. Eye witness account reported that the fire started from middle of the cliff.
The foresters from Mongar Divisional Forest Office, Community members, Desuups and other forest fire fighters are battling the fire. However, forest officials said that the fire is occurring on the cliff, making it difficult to suppress due to inaccessibility. Mongar Divisional Forest Office is fully involved in fire fighting, coordination and mobilization of the fire fighters.
However, more importantly, it is a reminder that forest fire season has started and the general public are urged to be careful with the fire. The rain has ceased to fall and with onset of dry season, our forest becomes increasingly susceptible to fire. The dry biomass easily catches fire even with a small flicker. It is also cautioned that fines and compensations for offenders are more stringent.
Therefore, we urge everyone to be extra cautious and prevent forest fire.
