Trashigang DivisionIntroductionThe Division was established on September 1, 1997 with a fundamental object to improve and enhance forest related services to the local people. The present Division headquarter is located at Melphey in Trashigang. Its jurisdiction extends over two dzongkhags of Trashigang and Trashi yangtse . The Division constitutes of 5 Range offices, 2 FMUs, 13 Beat offices and 5 checkposts. The Division has 55 staff including 6 non technical staff as of now.Geographically the Division covers an area of 2447.4 square kilometers situated between 27®15’ and 27®50’ latitudes and 91®30’ 91®45’ longitudes with an elevation ranging from 600 m to about 5400 m above sea level. The Division spreads over 22 Geogs covering over 10000 households under two Dzongkhags which does not include Merak and Sakteng Geog under Trashigang Dzongkhag (Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary) and Bumdeling Geog under Trashi Yangtse Dzongkhag(Bumdeling Wildlife Sanstuary). The greater number of people in these two Dzongkhags sustains and generates their income through agricutulture practices and depends heavily on natural resources. They practice subsistence farming and supplement their household income through cottage industries based on natural resources namely resin tapping, lemon grass distillation, traditional handicraft items, paper making, selling of NWFPs like star anise, piper fruits, etc…The total forest cover under this division is 290367 ha (LUPP, MoA, 1997) which makes up 77.8% of total geographical area of Trashigang and Trashi Yangtse Dzongkhag (Park areas included). Both coniferous and broadleaf forests attributes to the forest types found in the region. Its distribution stretches from 600 m to 5400 m above sea level. Community Forestry.Review CF application, plans and other programs submitted from two Dzongkhag Forest Office(s) for establishment of new CF.Perform annual monitoring and evaluation of CF(s) management in consultation with DzFS and CFMG(s) under Trashi Yangtse & Trashigang Dzongkhag.Initiate proper demarcation of CF boundaries in consultation with DzFS, CFMG and other stakeholders.Facilitate commercialization of CF products.2. Afforestation program.Formulate plantation program in consultation with Ranger(s).Review plantation activities, review plantation estimates submitted from the Ranges.Accord technical approval for plantation from Division for maintenance & SFD for new creation.Review plantation activities in the FMUs.Maintain records of all plantation and report submission.Identify critical watershed for management interventions with plantation and other applicable measure.Implementation of sustainable land management activities in consultation with field offices.Formulate micro projects and watershed management plans on ad hoc basis.Record keeping.3. Conservation & protection of wild life.Deal Human –wildlife conflict including collection, compilation and processing compensation payment for loss of domestic animal to wild predators.Forest fire suppression and organizing public campaign to combat forest fire.Collect, compile and online submission of Human-wild life conflict report.3.
